Band Competition Tips

Here are a few tips for marching band parents, a compilation of suggestions from parents who have been there!

1. When you show up at competitions, you're not just helping out.

It means a lot to your student to have you watch competition, help out behind the scenes and donate items. And you get to mingle with other Marching Band and Color Guard parents!

Do what you can to help.

2. The season goes by quickly.

Treasure the time, and take pictures!

3. Head Over to the Parents' Welcome Table

There will coffee and treats for you at each competition. It's always set up at the Spartan Marching Band's "zone" (where the kids eat dinner, change into uniforms and generally hang out). This is a great opportunity to meet other parents.  You also get to see the kids work together as an amazing team.  Look for the band's 48-foot semi-trailer with the black and gold Spartan logo on the side.

4. Encourage your marcher to get the competition travel bag ready early.

Having everything in place ahead of time helps alleviate stress on the day of competition. It's one less thing to worry about.
